First he bragged about how he had a hidden hand gun with him when he swore in for Presidency in 1978.Amidst much public outrage that followed, he said that it was perfectly legal, as he had a special permission from the previous president to be in charge the state armory. So with that special permission he and a "few friends" were carrying weapons during the swearing in ceremony, in case something happened to threat "national security". Documents allegedly proving this was also released recently by the Defense Ministry, while the then Defense Minister denied that Maumoon indeed had been given permission to carry arms at that time.
Then, another episode of this drama happened last September 16th, during a program on TVM. Maumoon claimed that neither him nor any of his friends were carrying any kind of weapons during the said ceremony. He also added that he has never, at any time, said anything to dispute this claim!
And now, on HFM last night, he has put another twist to the story. Now he is saying that he didn't have any weapons with him, but some of his friends who were in the Army were indeed carrying weapons!
I honestly hope that people of Maldives see him as what he really is and NOT vote for him in the election!
